WOW! This is such a great product in preventing our new chairs & furniture getting stripped from all life by our cat. Oh boy, these are just what I needed. My cat is very smart and knows not to scratch my hope chest (it has fabric on top). He just chooses to scratch it because he can. I did not want these on the sides of my hope chest because it is a wood surface. So I threw an old comforter on top and put these protectors over it. If I don't, the little crapper will scratch through the comforter as well. I did this for a year. Yes, ONE YEAR! So he proceeded to try to scratch these protectors to which made me evily laugh at him. Trust me, it's funny when they get that "What the heck is this?" look on their face. He kept trying to scratch it for about 6 months. I put a scratching post in front of my chest to try to change his behavior to the post. He started scratching the post instead. So after a year I took the comforter off and guess what? Kitty has zero interest in the hope chest now! This takes a lot of patience but worked for me. I am sure it will work for couches as well.
